The Power of AI

Job 1: Imagine you are working as a game developer. You have some code to fix. Would you pay a professional engineer to fix the code, or would you get AI (free, or very cheap) to not only write new code, but also explain, amend, and expand upon it? Here’s how that might play out.

I asked Gemini 3 Pro (free to try) to make a simple game of Snake for me. Here’s the prompt:

“Write a program that is runnable here in chat that plays snake. The game snake as you know, requires the player to be able to control this snake that eats fruit. It should be controllable by the keyboard and runnable here in Gemini. Keep score.

Ensure that the program works upon opening.”

And here’s what I got after running it in Chrome (Date: Dec 6th, 2025)

It works pretty well, but there’s some things that I want changed.

The snake does not die upon crashing into the wall, so I want a game over screen when the snake crashes. I also want two types of fruit for the snake to eat, and a score board. Let’s see that in action after I tell Gemini to generate my amendments.

It asks if I wanted a Game Over screen, which is very nice. I ask for the changes. Here’s my prompt:

“Yes, can you add a Game Over screen if I hit a wall, as well as two types of fruit, one which gives more points than the other? Also, can you make a title screen for the game where you can pick between one and two players, of which the two player mode would let you compete with a friend, turn based, for a high score? Also, can you add a scoreboard and a system where you can input your name for the game to record high scores.”

I also wanted some nicer graphics, so I prompted:

This looks really good, now just one more thing. Can you add 8-bit style graphics for the snake and the fruits? Generate images and animations for them and add it in.

Here’s the real kicker: This job can be done by one person, in the fraction of the time that you - the professional - used to take weeks to do. Why wouldn’t your employer cut out the work that you would do and give this oversight to one manager? Or even to the top manager - and have AI manage for them?

Why would any employer hire additional staff for no gain?
